Your Questions Answered
Frequently Asked Questions
Planning your ceremony will naturally come with a few questions. Here you'll find answers to some of the things couples ask me most often, from the legal requirements to what you can include in your ceremony. If you don't see your question here, just get in touch and ask me.
What types of ceremonies do you offer?
I conduct legal weddings as well as symbolic ceremonies, commitment ceremonies, vow renewals, baby naming ceremonies and funerals or celebrations of life. Every ceremony is created individually, so we can talk through what you’d like to include and what works best for you.
Do you perform legal weddings?
Yes. I can conduct legal wedding ceremonies in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
The legal process is different in each jurisdiction, so I’ll explain what applies to your wedding and guide you through what you need to do beforehand.
Why choose a Registered Solemniser?
A Registered Solemniser can legally conduct your marriage ceremony, so you don’t need to have a separate legal ceremony with a registrar. With me, the legal requirements are included as part of the ceremony we create together.
What areas do you cover?
I conduct ceremonies throughout the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Travel costs may apply depending on the location, and I’ll always discuss this with you before you book.
Can you conduct ceremonies outdoors?
Yes, outdoor ceremonies are possible and can work beautifully.
If you’re planning a legal wedding, we’ll also make sure your chosen ceremony location meets the requirements that apply to your wedding.
Are non-religious ceremonies available?
Yes. Your ceremony can be completely non-religious, include some religious elements, or be somewhere in between. We’ll talk through what feels right for you both and build the ceremony around that.
Do you customise our wedding ceremony?
Yes. I create each ceremony individually with you, so it reflects you as a couple and what you want from the day. We’ll talk through the ceremony together and you can choose the elements you’d like to include, from readings and music to personal vows or symbolic rituals.
Can we write our own vows?
Yes. You can include personal vows if you’d like to, and I can help you with them if you’re not sure where to start. For a legal wedding, your personal vows are separate from the legal declarations that must be made during the ceremony.
How long does a wedding ceremony usually last?
Most wedding ceremonies last around 20–35 minutes, depending on what you choose to include. Some can be shorter if you prefer a simple ceremony, while personal vows, readings, music or symbolic elements can add a little more time. We’ll talk through what you’d like beforehand and plan the ceremony to suit you.
Do we need witnesses for a legal wedding?
Yes. You’ll need two witnesses for your legal wedding ceremony. They can be family members or friends, and I’ll explain what they need to do on the day as part of the ceremony planning.
How far in advance should we book?
Popular dates can book well in advance, so if you have your date and venue confirmed, it’s always worth getting in touch.
I do sometimes have availability at shorter notice too, so just ask and I’ll let you know if your date is free.
How do I book you for our ceremony?
Get in touch through the enquiry form, by email or by phone with your wedding date and venue. If I’m available, we’ll arrange a call to chat about your plans and make sure I’m the right fit for what you’re looking for. I can then provisionally hold your date for one week, with a €300 booking fee required to secure it.
How much is the booking fee and when is the balance due?
The booking fee is €300 and is non-refundable. This secures your date, with the remaining balance due four weeks before your ceremony. Payment can be made by bank transfer or Revolut.
We’re having a small wedding in another county. Does that count as an elopement?
Not necessarily. My Elope in Ireland option is designed for couples who live in Ireland and are travelling somewhere special for a genuinely small, intimate wedding with only a handful of guests.
A smaller guest list or getting married outside your home county doesn’t automatically make your wedding an elopement. If you’re planning a more traditional wedding day with a venue, reception and larger guest list, one of my regular wedding ceremony packages will usually be the better fit.
If you’re not sure which applies to your plans, just get in touch and I’ll point you in the right direction.
