Is an elopement legally recognised in Ireland or Northern Ireland?
Yes - as long as your ceremony is conducted by a registered solemniser and you’ve completed the legal steps (such as giving notice and obtaining your Marriage Registration Form or Schedule), your elopement is fully legal.
Can we include family or witnesses?
Of course. To make your marriage legal, you’ll need two witnesses but beyond that, it’s up to you. Some couples choose just their witnesses; others bring a handful of close friends or family to share the moment.
Can we keep the location a surprise?
Absolutely. Elopements are wonderfully flexible - your location can remain a secret from any guests or family attending until the day, as long as it’s accessible and open to the public during the ceremony.
